Radon Levels in Calgary 2016-2017
This map shows some of the results of Radon Testing performed by HomeCrafters in the last year.
3 tests out of 22 exceed the Health Canada level of 200 Bq/m3.
10 exceeds the World Health Organization recommendation of 100 Bq/m3.
You can also see from the map that there is no real area or areas of the City that are higher or lower than the others. Two houses on the same street can have very different levels.
Due to soil conditions, openings in foundations, sump pumps and other variables that affect Radon, no exact pattern can be pinpointed for good or harmful levels.
Radon readings are in all levels of your home, but are most concentrated in basements.
Studies say that if you or someone in your home spends more than a few hours in your basement, you really should have your home tested.
